In Press Center, Take Stock in Children

John Henry, a positive force for The Immokalee Foundation for more than a decade, recently was named a 2018 Distinguished Volunteer of the Year by the Collier-Lee Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Henry, an emeritus board member for The Immokalee Foundation, has devoted countless hours of time to mentoring several students who have benefited significantly from his encouragement and guidance. A tireless volunteer fundraiser for the foundation’s scholarship programs, Henry has helped to ensure that young people in Immokalee develop successfully both in the community and in their careers. In nominating Henry, the foundation chose “positive” as one word to describe him.

In 2012, Henry was chosen Mentor of the Year for the scholarship program Take Stock in Children after being nominated by his mentees, who described him as a “father figure,” a “guardian angel,” and “the greatest mentor a guy could have.”

In addition to being a mentor and a board member for the foundation, Henry has served as a liaison to the board and has worked behind the scenes to introduce his mentees to professionals in the fields in which they are interested.

The Immokalee Foundation provides a range of education programs that focus on building pathways to professional careers through support, mentoring and tutoring, and life skills development leading to economic independence.
